Megyn Kelly writing a $10 million tell-all book about Matt Lauer is fake news. However, there is no truth that Kelly is working on a book “full of exclusive new bombshells,” according to Gossip Cop.
Where did this fake news originate? Life & Style reported that Lauer’s firing from NBC’s “Today” show for sexual misconduct “lit a fire” in Kelly, who was supposedly already contemplating “writing a book” tied to the ongoing avalanche of allegations about powerful figures.
Life & Style further said, “She wasn’t Matt’s colleague for very long, but long enough to gather information about him to fill a book, which is exactly what she’s planning to do.” The focus is said to be “Matt’s dirty deeds and horrible antics with women.”
The gossip magazine claimed that Kelly is “already fielding offers from publishers,” and cites one “publishing expert” who maintains she “could command a $10 million payday.” Life & Style also reported that Kelly has been receiving “shocking emails from women who want to tell their stories about Matt.”
The story has also been picked up by the Inquistir.

It is true that Kelly interviewed a former “Today” staffer about her relationship with Lauer. However, it is not true that Kelly is now planning a “tell-all” book about the disgraced former news anchor.
Rather, it seems likely that the fake news was concocted because Kelly has invited Lauer and his accusers on to her program in order to provide all details concerning Lauer’s sexual misconduct.
It is also unlikely that Kelly would be permitted to do so due to her contract with NBC News and any confidentiality or non-disclosure agreements that may be involved.
Furthermore, while the tabloid is claiming she worked “long enough” with Lauer to “gather information about him to fill a book,” Kelly herself said in November that she heard “rumors, but that’s all,” and pointed out, “I hear a lot of rumors about myself that aren’t true.”
NBC announced that Lauer was fired from “Today.” It was a stunning move for a co-host who was widely considered the crown jewel of the network’s news division, with a $25 million annual salary. The cause of his dismissal, according to sources, was a detailed complaint from another current NBC employee about inappropriate sexual conduct from Lauer that started on a trip at the Sochi Olympics in 2014 and continued for several months.
