Jalen Rose Calls Paul Pierce ‘Petty’ For Boston Celtics Tribute Fiasco Involving Isaiah Thomas

Jalen Rose called out Paul Pierce for being “petty” with regards to his Boston Celtics tribute night fiasco. On ESPN’s NBA Countdown, Rose told Pierce that he was being “petty” for not wanting to share his Celtics tribute night with Isaiah Thomas who conceded to remain not a part of any tribute.

Pierce made it known that he wanted the spotlight when the Celtics retire his jersey on Feb. 11, 2018, to be completely on himself. After he made this known to Danny Ainge, Thomas, who will be in town with the Cleveland Cavaliers, graciously asked that his own tribute video not be played.

Now, Rose addressed this entire fiasco to Pierce’s face on ESPN’s NBA Countdown.

“I gotta say a word for you fam,” Rose said. “I think it was petty. There are going to be all types of announcements that happen during the 48 minutes of that game. All types. Including celebrating Isaiah Thomas could be one of them. It does not take away from your situation like Kobe’s was during the game because they’re doing yours postgame.”

Rose got his point across in a much kinder way than fans on Twitter did. Pierce responded by saying he knows that he is being petty and then tried to make a “but Kobe Bryant scored 81 points on you” joke. Thomas released a statement on Twitter to say that he would like the Celtics to hold off on showing his tribute video and focus solely on Pierce to avoid the “controversy.”

Here are some reactions on social media to Rose’s comment to Pierce about being “petty.”

Calling a member of the 2008 Celtics petty may be redundant when you look at the track record that the team has shown with other former teammates like Ray Allen. Ultimately, this seems like much ado about nothing, but respect trumps all reason in sports sometimes and this is just another example.

What did you think of Rose calling Pierce petty with regards to the Celtics tribute and Thomas? Do you agree with Rose or believe Pierce should have been given full attention? Let us know in the comments section.
