Sam Adams Brewery Review: ’76 Beer Combines Great Lager And Ale Flavor With Hoppy Taste

Just in time for the Super Bowl where the New England Patriots will face the Philadelphia Eagles, Sam Adams released their new Sam ’76 beer. This is the type of beer that you can chug back cheering on the Patriots or the Eagles. This beer has a combination of lager and ale, with a slightly hoppy taste.

What makes Sam ‘76 such a revolutionary new beer is that this beer has an unmatched combination of refreshment, craft flavor, and aroma. Sam Adams experimented with both lager and ale yeast strains.

This beer has a great foamy head to the beer leaves good lacing on my Samuel Adams perfect pint glass. You can smell the hops taste is a bit hoppy but not overbearing a little bit tropical fruit taste to it.

Sam Adams brewers developed a unique brewing process that takes two active fermentations and blends them together to create a deliciously harmonious result. While the hop notes don’t hit hard, they impart some lemon, marmalade as well as some lightly tropical touches and a decent level of spiciness.

The finish is clean, lightly bready malt, with an aftertaste is bitter and citrus hops with light breadiness.

Jim Koch, Samuel Adams Founder, said “We’ve brewed a revolutionary beer that brings together the best attributes of lager and ale with a taste and aroma that will completely surprise any craft beer drinker. We wanted to offer drinkers a craft beer they can enjoy during any drinking occasion, from a tailgate to an afternoon with friends, and that’s exactly what Sam ’76 delivers. It took many iterations to get right, but with one sip you’ll understand why this beer is so unique.”

Their process delivers a distinct flavor that showcases the slight fruitiness of an ale with the balanced drinkability and smoothness of a lager. The process definitely helps as this is an easy to drink beer.

So whether you are tailgating, watching the game, or headed to a party with friends, Sam ‘76 can be your go-to beer. So, grab a Sam ’76 and serve it up for the Super Bowl.

Sam Adams recommends pairing the beer with pigs in a blanket or shrimp spring rolls. For larger entrees, Sam Adams says to enjoy Sam ’76 with grilled pork chop, bacon cheeseburger or grilled hot dog or brats. For dessert, enjoy strawberry shortcake or snickerdoodle cookies with Sam ’76.

Sam ’76 is available nationwide in six-pack cans for a suggested retail price of $8.99-$9.99, 12-pack cans for a suggested retail price of $15.99-$17.99, and 16 oz. single serve cans for a suggested retail price of $1.99-$2.49. Prices for each package vary by market.

Overall, it was a great experience sharing this beer from Sam Adams. What do you think of the beer? Let us know in the comments section.
