Nancy Pelosi, House Minority Leader, Having A Wall Around Her California Mansion Is A False Meme

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-California) having a large wall built around her San Francisco mansion is a false meme. There is no truth behind a meme saying the House Minority Leader was a hypocrite about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) as she had a wall around her home. Pelosi has been the subject of many fake news, photos and memes. This is just another one in a long list.

Prior the false meme being shared on social media, Pelosi gave an eight-hour speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives pushing for a vote on DACA. DACA was an executive action taken by President Barack Obama that allowed undocumented immigrants who came to the United States under the age of 16 to apply for protection from deportation. After a background check, those individuals were able to get renewable two-year permits to work and study in the US, as well.

Now, where did this false meme originate? Sites like DC Whispers and Facebook page “The Political Insider” shared the false meme suggesting that Pelosi was being a hypocrite in defense of the DACA program and being a proponent against the border wall as she herself had a wall surrounding her home in California. Here are some examples of people sharing the false meme.

Snopes reported that the photograph is not of Pelosi’s home. That site explained that the property, known as the Queen Anne, is located at 2424 Pacific Avenue in Pacific Heights, a wealthy area of San Francisco. The house was deigned by E.A. Hermann, constructed in 1894 and was the most expensive house on the San Francisco market in 2013. It eventually sold for $24 million in 2015.

Why was there confusion about the property being linked to Pelosi? Snopes explained that an Forbes article in 2013 gave a virtual tour of the mansion. In that article, Pelosi was mentioned as her home was in the same neighborhood and could be seen from one of the mansion’s wraparound porches. Indeed, Pelosi lives in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

Finally, Snopes found that there find a few photographs of Pelosi’s “redbrick manse” from a 2007 protest that was staged outside the property:
