If the story sounds wild and crazy that is because it is just that as it is false.

Surabaya | A zookeeper at Indonesia’s Surabaya Zoo has been severely injured after being trampled by a Sumatran rhinoceros, reports the Kalimantan Press this week.

Rano Rampan, a 43-year-old employee at the Surabaya Zoo, allegedly attempted to perform oral sex on the 1,600-pound animal as a cure to his erectile dysfunction, according to hospital staff.

The man, that also suffers from severe symptoms of depression, told doctors at Surabaya’s National Hospital that his wife had recently left him for another man because he could no longer perform his duties in bed.

“He believed that if he drank sperm from the rhinoceros’ penis maybe he could get back his erections and his wife would come back to him,” one hospital staff told reporters.

However, there is no truth to the above story. What is the problem with the story to make it false? Of course, there is no legitimate news coverage of such a story actually happening. A simple search of Kalimantan Press comes up with no results of the claims. As for Surabaya Zoo, an online petition reaching 885,000 signatures called for the closure of the zoo due to mistreatment of animals.

In 2014, Surabaya Zoo authority announced that 81 animals are sick, disabled, and old, and 44 of which are in severe conditions. The Surabaya Zoo has received complaints about its treatment of animals from activist groups such as the Jakarta Animal Aid Network, as well as from the interim administrator of the zoo.

Additionally, the photograph used in the fake news article can originally be found here. The man is actually 40-year-old Rolando Perez who was injured in a house explosion.
