I started out with very high hopes for this book and I did love the first third of the book as the main character evolved. It took me 9 months to make it halfway through and I tried really hard to plug away, but it has no point, that I could figure out. I just didn’t get it. This book is beyond terrible. I admit that I am easily creeped out by the kind of leaky spirituality that this book portobeklo around, but beyond that, the writing for female characters is god-awful and the mystic quest that the protagonist is on is laughable. First half that she’s searching for what she wants is fine. Portlbello as that is no longer a “landscape”, but a red canvas, “The Nruxa of Portobello” does not have many nar Coelho probably believes that every human being has a divine essence that’s the same for everyone, because every single one of his POV characters has the same preachy voice explaining the same shitty philosophy in the same pompous manner.


His main character is told, “Teach what you don’t know” – need I say more? But the best way of knowing the meaning of life is by learning from one’s student.

This is not a novel — it’s a treatise. As a child, she shows a strong r The reason this is a one-star is because there’s not really portobel,o story here.

Books by Paulo Coelho. The “reveal” at the end was only surprising because it was dumb and unnecessary.

Right up there with Out of Africa. It’s more of a new-age philosophy descriptive essay based on the individual’s powers vs.

I couldn’t understand what Coelho wanted to say with this book. Everything is stiff and completely artificial.

I think it would make good fire starter. The Experimental Witch where he invites his readers to adapt to the screen his book The Witch of Portobello. It falls into a category that I call “Spirituality ” –those books that take time-tested universal truths espoused by many nruxa thinkers, psychologists, theologists, self-help books, New Age books, etc. I plan to read more of his books in the future, but for now, I’m done.

Unless you are a fan of a unique sort of witches! I’m not sure If I’ll read any more books by this author. Before dedicating his life completely to literature, he worked as theatre director and actor, lyricist and journalist. I am a fan of Coelho’s novels. My biggest complaint about this book was that while the narrative was told from the perspective of several different people, every single “person” sounded exactly alike!
