Go with the Gary Friedman book. Well worth the $25 (or so). It’s HUGE too. I printed it in color, double sided x11 and it takes a 3-inch binder. “Gary Friedman, that also is a member here (Sony Camera Group), I’ve just downloaded the a77/a65 book and can’t wait to start reading it. Then when Friedman’s book was finished I bought it and dove in. It is so easy to read, very down to earth and conversational- it’s like I am asking you questions and you are telling me the answers.

Needless to say, this is a wonderful book, very informative and well laid out. I wish the prices were lower. It puts the Magic Lantern guide to shame both in its coverage of the camera and of photographic methods.

I thought I would upgrade to the A77 but it looks it will be the A How does Friedman differ from Busch as far as his explanations, examples, etc. It is probably the best piece of technical writing I have ever seen I am a retired engineer. There is a huge amount of practical knowledge in the book, much more than some of the other books that I’ve read, which were mostly a rehash of the camera manual, and some general advice about taking photos.

Also best to check out a local bookstore, there are other hard cover copies at far more reasonable less inflated pricing, that are also well written.

Guys, the new A78 will be unveiled soon I love both of these camera’s though and find both of them excellent for the location of the controls. For over 20 years, starting in college and continuing well into my working life, I was just such a “Big Brother” to two fatherless boys.
